Now that you’re comfortably dressed in jeans and sweaters and drinking pumpkin spice lattes, it's time to think about fall car maintenance. That way you're ready, should Mother Nature send an early winter surprise. Here are five things that you should do in order to be as safe on the road as possible:
1. Check Heater And Defroster
This is the time of year, you'll be wanting the car to be toasty warm on cool mornings. Check to ensure that the heater and defroster are working well. If you find any issues, take it in to be looked at, so that you're not stuck driving home in a chilly car after a long day of work.
2. Rotate Tires
If you haven't done this in a while, now's the perfect time to. But before you do that, check the tread to ensure that they're not too worn out. If they are, replace them. Also make sure they have the correct air pressure, so that you're operating it efficiently.
3. Change The Oil
This is a task that you know you need to do regularly. But do you? If you're soon due for an oil change, or if it's past due, get this taken care of. This helps extend the life of your vehicle and makes it run more smoothly. It's an easy enough task that you can learn. And you can save money by taking the DIY approach.
4. Check Windshield Wipers And Lights
As darkness comes earlier in fall, you want to be sure your lights are working. This way, other vehicles can see you — no matter what the weather. As rain and snow sometimes start unexpectedly, it's important to have your windshield wipers in tip-top shape. These are an inexpensive and easy to replace.
5. Make Sure Your Auto Insurance Is Up To Date
As you're going over your vehicle for a good tune-up, now's the time to check your car insurance coverage. Maybe you no longer need collision coverage, or you want to increase your deductible. Call your insurer today and remember to put your new insurance card in your glove box for safe keeping.
As it gets colder, it's less enjoyable to do even the simplest auto tune up tasks outside. Don't delay and wait until you're stuck in the rain or snow. Call your mechanic and schedule a time to do these tasks today. And for your car insurance needs, contact us, and we'll help you make sure you're set up with the right policy.
